LAND AND SEE
Inspired by the passage of time, Land and See takes visitors on a whimsical exploration of two historic Miami neighborhoods: Lemon City and Little Haiti.

The proposed site, located in Little Haiti, Miami, originally opened in 1929 as the Magic City Trailer Park. It is now the site of the widely contested Magic City Special Area Plan.
Remnants of the park recall waves of cultures that transformed the neighborhood: the early agricultural community of indigenous Seminoles, black Bahamians, and white settlers of Lemon City, and the Haitian immigrants that created present-day Little Haiti. Over the years, the legacy of cultural heritage has eroded due to segregation, disinvestment, and gentrification.
Land and See celebrates the history of each neighborhood with design objects inspired by the Gingerbread latticework, and multi-color facades of Little Haiti and the citrus groves of Lemon City. Users enter at the original park entrance along NE 2nd Avenue, encountering the path made of repurposed pallet wood and a progression of “poetry posts” that gradually increase in height.
Gently sloped to accommodate handicapped visitors, the path ramps up to a vibrant plaza deck engulfing the Lemon City era DuPuis Medical Office and Drugstore built in 1902. A stroll down the undulating path offers opportunities for rest, play, and exploration with the design objects.
An expansive amphitheater deck, the heart of the project, acts as a multi-use canvas. Finally, paying homage to cultural exchange, a plethora of vendor stands guides visitors to the end of their Land and See voyage.
