Architecture & The Culinary Space hosted by The Layers of Design Podcast as part of the Design X Community, is a unique dining and design event aimed at bridging the gap between architects and the public. The event consists of an intimate dinner with 20 guests, a conversation with the architect / designer of the By George Restaurant at The Candler Hotel, a tour of the hotel, and a delicious dinner. This series offers a unique opportunity to experience dining from an architect's perspective, while connecting with like-minded individuals.

In 1905, Asa Candler—the founder of Coca-Cola—hired two architects to design and construct a landmark building on Peachtree Street in downtown Atlanta. The work of those architects, George Stewart and George E. Murphy, will reopen in summer of 2019 as The Candler Hotel, and its restoration represents a homecoming to Beaux Arts refinement in the very heart of the city. An outward-facing restaurant—named By George in honor of the duo that crafted its space—will be the hotel’s destination dining room.
By George will be open throughout the day, and it will offer a pure, classic cuisine—largely influenced by Contemporary American cooking. To match Acheson’s food will be an extensive wine program helmed by accomplished sommelier Steven Grubbs and keen cocktails from the talented hands of Kellie Thorn.

45 MINUTES GUIDED TOUR
Starting in the basement, we will take a guided tour of The Candler hotel. We will learn about the history, architecture and stories that have helped shape the Candler Hotel over the years. This guided tour will be given by the hotel's historian Jerome Smith

As we enjoy a three course meal with a glass of white or red wine, we will listen in on an intimate conversation between the LoD podcast host, Ebehi Ijewere, architect Clayton Daspit and interior designer, Callie Harris. Both Clayton and Callie played a vital role in the design of the By George restaurant. We will learn about their individual experiences as designers and some of the challenges and fun times that went into bringing this beautiful restaurant to life!
